I'll Be There

It's almost that time when it's actually enjoyable to step outside again. It's almost the time when the sun begins to shine, an enveloping warmth surrounds you and the welcoming cool wind blows at all the right times. It's almost the time to kick out the summer playlists and listen to the laid back jams that just feel summery.

To celebrate the arrive (and hopefully permanence) of nice weather, I leave you today with a song to capture the mood and feel of spring. You can expect plenty more of this music as the weather brings out the best in everything. Thanks for this one Mac.

Things of note

Things that I care to note:
  • Lupe Fiasco's album, "Lasers," is out. I will not be posting any music from it. You should buy it. If there's a bad song on it, I can't find it.
  • Xaphoon Jones is releasing a new mixtape, due to drop April 1st.
  • 5 years later, Justin Timberlake is finally getting back to recording music, this summer.
  • Willow Smith has released a new single, "21st Century Girl." It features some Ke$ha sing-talk break downs, aka it's a step in the wrong direction.
  • In a few weeks, I'll be seeing Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross, Nikki Minaj, Travis Barker, Chiddy Bang and Pretty Lights in concerts. Reviews of that to come in the near future.
  • I've completed about 23 minutes of new music for my next mixtape. Look for that at the beginning of summer.
  • I'll leave with you an old jam that has found its way back onto my rotation as of late.

Jake and Amir (and Hoodie Allen)

If you don't know about Collegehumor's series "Jake and Amir," go educate yourself right now. Hoodie Allen is their latest feature to drop in. Check it out.

    I Need a Doctor

Some great visuals to match some introspective Eminem-Dre lyrics with an unbelievable hook by Skylar Grey (see Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said," Skylar Grey is killing it).

I dig it. Ignore the product placement in this video and enjoy.

    Wake Up

In honor of Arcade Fire winning best album of the year at the grammys last week, why not feature one of their classics?

    Algorithms

I'm behind on this one but Milkman, a very talented mash up artist who I believe produces albums that go head-to-head with Girl Talk, has released another mixtape. This mixtape, Algorithms, can be copped over on his website here.

Get on it, and get on his other two albums, "Circle of Fifths" and "Lactose and THC," if you haven't already.

...guess I might as well clarify now, yes, there will be samples in my upcoming mixtape that are in this album. I've already heard several. I'm not going to go back and change things because another artist used the same samples. Many times, I enjoy listening to multiple mash up artists use the same sample; the differences in uses accentuate creativity even further in some cases.

    Dreams Up

A little behind on the posting of this one, but some new(ish) Hoodie Allen coming at you. This kid is my favorite of the upcoming; keep a look out for this kid.

Just taking a quick look back here, let's see one of the last times someone blew up and followers of this blog were way ahead of the curve.

The Cataracs mixtape, which featured the collaboration with Far East Movement, "Like a G6" was posted on February 26th. That was featured roughly 6 months before it hit radio. You heard it here first!

    Hoodie Allen...remember the name.

    Can a Drummer Get Some?

Travis Barker is back, collaborating with all sorts of people to produce drum-heavy masterpieces. This first single off his upcoming album hits hard both musically and lyrically. Keep an eye out for his upcoming album, Give the Drummer Some.

    With Your Friends (Long Drive)

I've sat on this song for a little while, but it's definitely time to share it. I'm not sure what genre I would even put this into, but it's too unique and sounds too good to not enjoy.
