A Request from Me

Please allow me to take a break from my regular music postings to address you with a request.

Readers and followers,

In May 2011, I will be embarking on a trip to Africa with two goals. Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the world's largest free standing mountain, and help renovate schools for children in Tanzania.

Thanks to Childreach International USA (childreachusa.org), I am able to have the opportunity to achieve both of these goals. I have a set fundraising goal of $5,000 that will go towards Childreach, schools for children in Tanzania and the expenses of travel to and from Africa, as well as up the mountain.

As specified by Childreach, the money raised will be used primarily to support the School Improvement Programs and Vocational Training Centers in Tanzania. This past year, the program benefited 2,894 children in Tanzania by renovating classrooms, providing new supplies and building toilet and kitchen facilities. The Vocational Training Centers aim to help socially excluded and/or vulnerable children by teaching them practical skills to increase their chances of employment later in life. In 2009, the training centers taught carpentry, training, IT, math, and basic English to 125 young adults.

I am seeking help in reaching my $5,000 fundraising goal and I would really appreciate any donation you feel comfortable giving; I can assure you it's going to a great cause. Thanks so much.

To donate, follow this link:
http://www.active.com/donate/ClimbKili4Kids/BKaplan

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like more information.

There may be a brief mentioning of this time to time, but you can expect the normal music posts to resume next post. Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Brandon "DJ BK" Kaplan

I Just Had Sex

Even more shouts to illRoots.

Not sure why these guys have been popping up in my life so much recently, but Lonely Island hilarious, so I don't mind. I love when they just say fuck it and don't go for rhymes. Good to see Akon with a sense of humor. Great break down at 2:00.

Gotta Get Up

Shouts to illRoots for this one. Asher Roth and D.A. go over a great piano riff, produced by Notz, for this latest leak off his upcoming mixtape, The Rawth EP, dropping on the 27th.

All For Love

Two posts in one night? It's finals week, why not? We're gonna go another direction and bring it back to the 90s with this Color Me Badd track. It was so cool to substitute words for numbers in the 90s. 4 real.

Tweeters

Stumbled upon this bad boy earlier this week. Enjoy a nice, mellow, synth-filled beat accompanied by the talented vocals of a relatively unknown, Dow Jones.

"I don't do it for the whites, I don't do it for no brothers, I do it for every color. So you can see this without using your sight, therefore this music is color blind."

Duck Sauce

What happens when you bring two of the greatest DJs currently alive and have them collaborate to make new music? Duck Sauce happens. Duck Sauce, comprised of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, is not exactly the newest duo on the scene, but I'm going to enlighten those of you who don't know the fun that Duck Sauce is capable of bringing.

Check out the star studded video, but since it cuts in and out of the actual song, I recommend you download the song to really listen to it. I spot Barbra Streisand, Santogold, Pharrell, Kanye, Vampire Weekend, Ryan Leslie, A-Track and Armand Van Helden. Who have I not recognized here?

Someone

I've been in a Chili Peppers mood lately, so let's take a look at what we'll be missing out on for years to come. A song featuring absolutely amazing vocals with a great acapella feel, especially around the halfway mark and towards the end. Red Hot Chili Peppers, you are missed.

Hancock Basement

I don't have much on these guys. But I love their sound. They're Australian mates who entered into some local competitions and got some recognition. In fact, they got themselves enough recognition to find themselves on the U.S.'s Artists to Watch list, along side some impressive names, including this guy named Scott. You might know him better as Kid Cudi though. Now they're gaining momentum and popularity in the U.S., opening for acts like Vampire Weekend. I don't know if they're going anywhere, but I'm diggin this track at the very least.

The Best Day

More from Atmosphere, talking about how to get through the worst days.

Facebook bought out drop.io, effectively shutting it down, so I'll be experimenting with some more file sharing services. Check this out and let me know how you feel about using Mediafire.

Dynamite Pressure

This mashup turns an overplayed club favorite into a more mellow, pleasant-sounding song. I especially love how the chorus sounds with the Under Pressure backdrop on it.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

New Lupe

Lupe officially dropped a single off Lasers, and he skillfully and beautifully manipulates Modest Mouse's "Float On." I don't even know what to say about this one, besides "holy shit." Get it Lupe. We've missed you.

My dropbox is down and I'm sure I'll be attacked for copyrights here, so what I'm going to do is link you to illRoots to pick up this song.

Milkman

Remember Milkman, the mashup artist? Sure you do. Well...he did something good. Really good.

Milkman has debuted his first ever publically released single, "Breaking Free," accompanied by a music video. And it's awesome. Check it out and jam hard.

Willow Smith

If you haven't heard the news by now, you're living under a rock.

Willow Smith, Will Smith's 9-year-old daughter, has signed on to Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation, after releasing her first single "Whip My Hair." The visuals came out recently. Check what you've been missing.

Hopefully the copyright monster doesn't come after me again.

Taking Heat

The BK Lounge has been taking a lot of copyright heat lately, multiple posts have been taken down by google. Hang in there.

This excerpt is from the bottom of the blog, and I encourage all to take a quick look at this.

"MP3s aren't put up to take away from artist revenue, they are for sampling or personal use only. DJ BK fully supports buying music rather than downloading. If you are the owner of one of these songs, and would not like it posted, please contact me and I will gladly take it down."

Praying For Rain

This is a summer song for me, but still on heavy rotation on my iTunes. I think it'll make its way to your rotation as well. Crank the windows down and belt this bad boy out. Shouts to DLiff for this one.

I'm gonna look into some more of Aziz's stuff and his mixtape, Point of You.

Nosebleed Section

Two posts in one day? Crazy. I stumbled across this song and couldn't resist sharing. I don't know anything about these guys, so I'll do some digging around. My guess is they're from the UK though. You'll agree.

Haterade

Can't really say that I like Gucci, but I must admit, I do like the taste of Haterade.

New Track

I bet you have no idea who this guy is. He is a talented man who goes by the name of Chilly Gonzales.
I bet you do recognize his tune "Never Stop" though, from the popular iPad commercial (which apparently I cannot post due to copyright laws).

It's a fun little diddy that was asking to be mashed up. So I took the liberty of adding some Lupe to an already fun piano track. Check it out.

2 AM Club and Xaphoon Jones

This group pulled together their crew from all over the U.S. and came out with a great sound. I guess it's a little ironic that I say that since I'm featuring a remix to their jam "Nobody's in Love," compliments of Xaphoon Jones. Yes, Chiddy Bang's Xaphoon Jones.

The Right Kind (of Love)

I've been jamming out to E-603 a lot lately, as well as a lot of other mash up artists. One of my new favorite past times is to listen to this mash up music and find an unfamiliar sample that I like a lot. I do some research and get my hands on the original song that was sampled. Not only does this broaden my music knowledge, but it makes me appreciate even more how mash up artists have incorporated the sample into their music flawlessly. I'd highly recommend you try this for yourself. The good news is, since you probably won't try it on your own, I do it a lot and I want to begin sharing the great music that has provided mash up artists with great samples.

B.o.B

Something's up with the picture uploader right now...I'll get it figured out soon.

In case you live under a rock, B.o.B's "The Adventures of Bobby Ray" was released a few days ago. This album will please both rap and rock lovers, and if you're not into B.o.B, then (you're an idiot) you should still appreciate the quality of the album. It just literally sounds good; it was evidently very well produced. B.o.B's flexibility in the genres makes him especially unique and is perhaps the reason that I deem him the best musical artist to enter the game in years.

Anyway, I fucking love B.o.B and this album. Add this to the list of artists that I (and you!) knew before he blew up. Good luck Bobby Ray.

I'm actually not leaving you with any tracks from the album, I want you to buy it. My favorite tracks from there are probably "The Kids" and "Letters From Vietnam," so if you don't buy it, (you suck) then check em out on youtube or something. Since I'm on the topic of great B.o.B tracks, I'll leave you with a track that didn't make the album, although I have no idea why it didn't.

B.o.B - Can I Fly

Twitter

Started somewhat actively using twitter!

Why? I have no idea. Follow me at DJBKap. Guaranteed that'll be updated (without the actual music) more often with more music related news than this blog is.

But I'll still be blogging for sure. I've got three new tracks in the making. Stick around for a week or two.

Music Sampling

I'm giving a speech about music sampling, and stumbled across some interesting samples that have been made into popular songs, that I didn't know were samples until now. Check some of these songs out and learn for yourself.

[Ying Yang Twins - Shake]

[Notorious B.I.G. - Big Poppa]

[Mims - This is Why I'm Hot]

[Nas - I Can]

There's plenty of this shit out there. Check it out.

Is Nickelback The Worst Band Ever?

Well, is Nickelback the worst band ever?

I Need a Dollar

I don't think anything after 2:38ish is the same song. Still pretty soulful shit though.

I'm sure us college kids can relate.

Little Boots

Significantly better music than what I just posted. Hip hop lovers may take a pass on this one, but I think anyone with a good ear for music should enjoy this. Expect a way more in-depth post on Little Boots, she's awesome.

Little Boots - New in Town (drop)

I'm loving this.

Tik Tok

A remix of an overplayed song with a band that you probably don't care about. It works. I dig it. Check out Ke$ha vs. Owl City.

Ke$ha vs. Owl City - Tik Tok vs. Hello Seattle

Don't have much info on this one, no DJ, no name for the remix. I don't know. Hm. Whatever.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Wait, What?

Simple. Mash Up. XX vs. Notorious B.I.G. It's chill. It's awesome. That's all.

djDOYOU

I'd be surprised if you haven't heard of djDOYOU's work already. "Stuntin' Like Mufasa" has blown up all over the next, but who knows? Maybe you're way behind on the game. djDOYOU has taken several Disney songs and mashed them with some of our favorite hip hop songs. The creativity of it blows me away. Well done deejay. Check a few out here, but cop the whole mixtape here.

New Track!

I can't just sit around and not mess around with music, even right after I finish a mixtape. Needless to say, I've created another track for your enjoyment and mine. I'd recommend listening on quality speakers or headphones, mac speakers don't really cut it (ever).

Nyle

Remember Nyle?

Oh yeah, that guy. I've been jamming to his albums lately, and I've gotta share my two favorite. His light hearted lyrics and creative presentation of music is so stylistically unique, that you won't be able to help but enjoy something so musically different in a rapper.

Nyle - NYU
Nyle - Bye Philly

I may have posted about these songs before, but I finally got the mp3s. More Nyle to come for sure.

Fire It Up, Firemouse

Yet another flawless mashup from The Hood Internet. God, I love these guys.

The Hood Internet - Fire It Up, Firemouse (Lil' Wayne vs Modest Mouse)

"Ain't nobody fuckin' with me man."

By the way, Gorillaz are releasing their latest album soon, Plastic Beach, and so far what I've heard is sick. I'll probably buy it or cop it sometime this weekend, and post a few tracks, be ready for that.

B.o.B

I've been jamming out to this somewhat old B.o.B track a lot recently, it features Cobra Starship of all groups, and they actually are the perfect addition to the track. Enjoy this one.

The Cataracs

My day has been made after stumbling upon these two guys. This is just amazing music. The mixtape will please hip hop lovers and alternative music lovers and really everything in between. I'll leave you with a few of my favorite, but you should grab the whole mixtape here, and check out their website here.

The Cataracs - Ice Cream Paint Job Remix

A chill remix of Ice Cream Paint Job featuring unbelievable vocals and appropriately matching instrumentals.

The Cataracs - Sippin' Champagne

A song that I could see blowing up, at least in the blogging world. I'd compare it to a slower jam equivalent to "Shirt Off." Way more chill, but musically, just as well put together.

The Catarcs - Undercover

Try listening to the chorus (0:58) and not singing it for the rest of the day.

Hood Stew

Shouts to 'White Folks' for this one. DJ Slink mashes some green day and Gorilla Zoe.

Baby, I'm Yours

Hip hop lovers, this one is not for you. Passion Pit lovers, this one may or may not be for you. Shit, this may not be for anyone that reads this blog, but I dig this.

E-603

I've featured some E-603 tracks before, but I just snagged another one E-603's albums somewhat recently. In case you forgot, E-603 is a mashup artist, similar to Girl Talk or Phoenix Jukebox. And he/she is fucking awesome. I'm gonna dig up the scoop on E-603 to get some bio. Enjoy this album, "Torn Up," and bump it really fucking hard. I've included my favorite track separately below. But get E-603's "Torn Up" here!

Surprise! More Remixes

Hey oh.

Let's see here, besides getting a Jay-Z ticket for 20 dollars and a free Blueprint 3 album this weekend, I also stumbled upon a few gems perusing around the net.

Unrelated to the music I have to share with you, I also saw this 30 second video at the movies the other day, and it's hilarious.

Anyways.

Phoenix, Peter, Bjorn, John And Victoria - One Thousand Nine Hundred And One Folks (Immuzikation Blend)

A More Perfect Union

Here it is folks, after about a year or so from the creation of my sorry excuse for a mixtape, I present to you "A More Perfect Union." Enjoy about 35 minutes that are the results of my hard work and procrastination of important things.

Following the track list is a note or self-critique of each track. All my opinion of course.

1. Get Silly

2.
Give It To Me

3. Tip Top

4. Single Ladies

5. Big Shot

6. Lick It Good

7. Yo, I'll Solve It.

More Remixes

Couldn't help it. I keep on stumbling upon full mixtapes of disgustingly awesome remixes. This mixtape, called the Youtube Mashup Project, is an assembly of 34 submissions to someone, somewhere. I'm sure a shit ton were submitted for the project, but whoever assembled these picked some impressive ones. You can find the entire mixtape here, near the bottom of the page. While I have you here (or if you aren't going to download the whole mixtape), you might as well check out some of my favorites though.

White Noise - It's His Sled

Torpeedoh (Zach Torpy) - Anything Goes
Fresh Galaxy - I Gotcha
DJ Rosco - Party Outta Control In The USA

Just stumbled upon another mixtape of great remixes, expect some more soon. Eventually we'll get to some originals.

Back!

Internet has been shaky in the house for a change. More often than not, I don't get internet in my own house. So hang in there because I have an absurd amount of new music to share with you. I'll start by throwing some remixes out here before we get to some new original stuff. Enjoy, and look forward to some more posts.

Party Ben - Single Ladies (In Mayberry) (Beyoncé vs. The Andy Griffith Show)

This is probably my favorite of the bunch strictly for its originality.

Mad Mix Mustang - I Got More Than A Feeling (Boston vs. Black Eyed Peas)

The White Panda - Intergalactic Spell (Beastie Boys vs. Alphabeat)

The Hood Internet - Summer Of Tik Tok (Ke$ha vs YACHT)

K'naan - Waving Flag Remix (Prod. by Beatnick & K-Salaam)
