Straight Up Music

I can't even tell you how frustrating the internet situation here. Thanksgiving break will bring a fixed internet and a regular uploading of music and a regular schedule of blogging. Lots has happened in the music world since last time I posted. Here are just two highlights.

Chiddy Bang's mixtape, "Swelly Express," was released. Snag it here.

Mike Posner's mixtape, "One Foot Out the Door," was released. I featured a few of the songs below.
Mike Posner - One Foot Out the Door
Mike Posner - I Don't Trust Myself (John Mayer cover)

I love Posner's mixtape, and I'm still making my way through Chiddy Bang's.

Oh, and here's a random Best I Ever Had remix.

Short post, yeah, but I'm sure my internet is about to go out again.

Some more Chiddy Bang released, biding time till the upcoming mixtape. I'd throw a picture up here, but in previous posts, I've already used up all 2 pictures of them in google images. Love the sampling that Chiddy Bang chooses.

Check it here.

Welcome Back

The BK Lounge has returned for the school year. Sorry for the delay, move-in was a bitch, but here I am. So let's get back to the norm, shall we?

News today:
Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, has died at 36. Apparently, they found crack in his two million dollar apartment. That's a pretty significant loss to the music industry. DJ AM has an interesting story behind him. Philly bred, Goldstein lost his gay drug-addicted father when he committed bank fraud and was locked up. He would soon after die of AIDS. Goldstein got into drugs himself after that, and his mother sent him somewhere to clean up. Unknown to her, the place which he was sent was soon to be shut down for hitting their patients, starving their patients and other forms of maltreatment. Fast forward a couple years, DJ AM is a member of Crazy Town (yes, the band that sings 'Butterfly'), and soon would climb to fame and begin collaborating with Travis Barker. His skill as a DJ gained him international fame, and he gained respect from all aspects of the music industry. If you didn't know, DJ AM and Travis Barker were recently in a plane crash, and they were the only 2 survivors. Months of rehabilitation and recovery later, DJ AM made his return to the clubs and to music altogether and was received more than warmly around the world. An interesting story for sure.

RIP Adam Goldstein

Now, to some music.

It's only fitting to introduce DJ AM to those who don't know his music.
Check out one of his collaborations with Travis Barker, called Fix Your Face (zshare). It's an entire mixtape of Barker and DJ AM going at it; it's really impressive stuff. Check out their website for volume 2.

Moving on...
Wale Feat. Jazmine Sullivan - World Tour
(Wale's CD Attention Deficit dropping in October!)

K'naan - If Rap Gets Jealous

K'naan has got an awesome story to him as well, expect a full feature about him soon.

Wiz - I Hate College (Remix)

Shouts to Vlad for this one. Anyone that's followed this blog knows that I wouldn't be featuring any parody, remix, knock-off, etc, of I Love College unless it was pretty damn good. This unknown delivers a pretty awesome remix, so check it out.

P.S. Inside scoop from Dan Liffman, who's friends with Chiddy Bang's producer, that Chiddy Bang broke up, and the lead singer was signed. Guess we'll wait for something official from the band before we (meaning at least me) get too sad about it. In Chiddy Bang related news though, their producer, Xaphoon Jones, is releasing a mixtape! If you haven't hopped on the Chiddy Bang train yet, here's their biggest hit and one of their most creative songs, Kids, once again. My drop is going really slow, so that's the direct link from Pretty Much Amazing.

More Chiddy Bang

I can't stay away from these guys. They haven't let me down with a single track yet. Information on the group is pretty scarce, but I can tell you a few things about them. The Philadelphia group consists a four freshmen in college, and are made up of a vocalist, keyboardist/producer, drummer/producer and guitarist. I'm sure each does more than one job in this group though. So basically, their music begins and ends with them only. From the beatmaking and lyric writing to the final production, Chiddy Bang takes care of it all. Their biggest introduction to the public came when they had the opportunity to open for Jazzy Jeff and Mike Jones.

I can bet we'll be hearing from these guys more often.

I was surfin' around their myspace and their webpage, and found a link to a handful of their releases. The flow, creativity and overall sound of the group makes it all the more astounding that they haven't blown up to epic proportions yet. But they will. And you'll have known them first.

Kids

You all know the song Kids by MGMT, if you don't know, then shame on you, but there it is, linked. This post isn't about MGMT though, well, sort of. It's about Chiddy Bang. Some freshmen college kids from Philly, represent. They're relatively unknown, but I advise you remember their name. They've only got a few songs left, but rhymes and beats like you've never heard. Feels good to get some fresh air of music in this top-40 type music we've been enveloped in lately.

"Can I please get a little bit of knowledge? Somebody tell Roth that I don't love college."
