Bearbot

About a year ago or so, I stumbled on Bearbot on thesixtyone. Thesixtyone is an amazing website, where you earn points by "bumping" other artists songs. The more points you get, the more features you unlock. But really the point of the website is to get underground, indie, remixed and otherwise unheard of music out. It's brought a lot of good music to my attention, and of course, you'll find some DJ BK on the website. I highly recommend you sign up and explore the website. D Liff and I have been on it for years and have been going back virtually everyday. But after all, we do have to thank DJ KB for the tip about the website in the first place. She's always hookin' it up. So yeah, go check out the webite.

Anyway, Bearbot has moved out of thesixtyone's grasp and blown up pretty big in the music blog world. I've got several of Bearbot's songs that I listen to pretty frequently. She, yes I said she, has some real talent. Check out some of my favorites, and go to her website that I linked earlier in the post for all of her music.

Sidenote: Lil' Wayne has done something right! The Hot Boys (Lil' Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and Turk) are coming back together, an idea which apparently was Lil' Wayne's. They're coming back first to do a movie soundtrack, but later to do a reunion album.

Jackson 5!

Mad props to Bennihana for this one.

Anyone who knows me knows my favorite song is "I Want You Back" by Jackson 5. Weeeellll, I'm in love. Check this out. The acapella gets off every now and then, but this is awesome. Live looping is awesome technology, and ironically enough, the last post I had with live looping being used was KT Tunstall's cover of "I Want You Back."

UGK

Spring break… a period of unaccountability for all of us. Sorry in advance if posting slows down, but we all have places to go and friends to see. On another note, Charles Hamilton puts on a great live performance and I suggest if you ever get the opportunity to go see that show. You won’t regret it!

International Players Anthem – UGK feat. Outkast

If you’ve ever been near me in person there’s close to an 80 percent chance that you have already heard this song. Andre “3 Stacks” Benjamin and Big Boi of Outkast come together with Pimp C and Bun B from UGK to drop a truly classic track.

Andre 3000 raps first, starting off seemingly talking to the audience as though he was telling a story in person. As he keeps talking, you realize that this story actually rhymes, and goes well with an instrumental which up to this point is percussion free. “Then I CC’d every girl that I’d see see round town”, he raps, illustrating perfectly Andre’s ability to use playful and creative wordplay while actually making sense in a story. It’s a take on love, but with illustrative wording to make it original. You might recognize the verse from Girl Talk’s “Feed The Animals” CD.

Pimp C’s verse comes in after an introduction from the drums. Each line ends with two rhyming syllables that make it easy to remember and catchy as hell. His verse is pretty much the opposite of Andre’s, talking about pimping rather than love, making it a funny contrast. Next is Bun B, who uses a style similar to Pimp C’s. It’s a little more sing-y with a smooth and easy to listen to flow. It definitely compliments the verse before it and also transitions pretty well into Big Boi’s verse.

The final verse is yet another take on the different final outcome of relationships of a pimping. Think of it in context with Ye’s Gold Digger. Big Boi using the Chopped and Screwed method for a portion of his verse to talk about something that’s, well, Chopped and Screwed up. “Ask Paul McCartney, the lawyers couldn’t stop the, slaughter of them pockets, had to tie her to a rocket”, comically illustrating what happens if you get caught paying child support for a woman you don’t care about.

Although the other verses range from average to pretty good, the clear shining portion of the track is where Andre 3000 raps. The production for this track is amazing all around, integrating a sample well at the end of each verse to sum up each final outcome, “I Choose You”.

MTV Shows

-Michael Jackson's making a comeback tour this summer, his last in London.

-Eminem's "Relapse" is coming out May 19th. He's already started "Relapse 2" and predicts it to be out sometime the second half of this year.

-I'm just gonna throw this Charles Hamilton track here at the end because I just stumbled upon it and it's pretty hot.

A-Trak

You should know A-Trak by now. A-Trak won the DMC World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15, the youngest ever, and the first Canadian ever to win. Apparently he's dating, Kid Sister, just found that one out recently. But you probably know him more as Kanye West's DJ. He's an incredibly talented young DJ, and he uses the same software program that I do!

Anyway, A-Trak's latest is nothing close to disappointment. Here is a sampler from his upcoming mix tape Infinity +1, due out March 31st.

A Milli (DJ BK Mash Up)

I really don't think this is anything special, but this mashup finally makes A Milli dancy and playable at parties without killing the mood. It's nothing impressive, but take it for what it is.

Brandy of the Damned

I'm going to quote an entire description of this song, pulled directly off an article at The Fader just because I think it's pretty accurate and pretty funny. Shout out to the Fader.

"It's [Ronson's] remix of one of our favorite songs on Nikolai Fraiture's Nickel Eye album, mellowed even further by some gentle hornery, shuffling snares and an almost whispered verse from Wale.
