Home

Okay, okay. I'm home, I have internet, there's no excuse. I'll throw several songs on this post and then get back to some regular posting this week.

Some oldies that I've been jamming out to lately,
Madonna - Hung Up
A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It?

Atmosphere - Millie Fell Off the Fire Escape
...disgusting beat here.

Jay-Z - December 4th

Danzel - Pump it Up
...thanks Dan

Wale - The Meeting
<3 3:54 in this

Snag all those songs right here.

I'll get some real posts up this week, with new music. Consider this is a mini make-up post.

Beatles in 3000

Not sure everyone will find this as hilarious as I did. But if you know anything about the Beatles, I think you'll find this pretty funny. Snagged directly from AudioPorn Central.

News and Electric Music

Well, a couple interesting tidbits of news.

-Lupe Fiasco is dropping a mixtape on Thanksgiving day. It's going to better than [insert any other rapper to come out with a mixtape so far this year]'s most likely.

-Eminem is not releasing Relapse 2 this year, like we were told. He's releasing seven new tracks, but not a full CD. Relapse 2 will be out next year.

-Charles Hamilton has returned to the rap game. And no one cares (by no one, I mean me). His sampling is still pretty dirty, but his rap skills? Not so much. Check out his newest, "Charles Hamilton Is Back." I kinda dig the chorus, but with lyrics like "I'm still the big brother on the block/still a lover/and I'm still the color of a twat," I wish he would've handed his sampling job off to someone else.

-"Tik Tok" has been pretty close to played out already. Jay Sean and Jason Derulo are dead to me.

Let's just get to some music.

Hip hop lovers, this post's music is not for you.

Honestly, I've got nothing on this group. I'll have to do some research. But I've been jamming out to this song lately, so I thought I'd share. Dig the electronic sound of Ladytron. Shouts to Mallory Dorfman actually for the tipping me off to the song.

That dude looks like Ringo Starr in the 60's.

Ladytron - Seventeen (drop)

And while we're on the topic of alternative dance music, I'm gonna drop some Passion Pit tunes for you as a prerequisite to a more extensive post in the near future. Once again, a very electric sound, with vocals all over the place, but extremely well put together.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead
Passion Pit - The Reeling

Expect more on Passion Pit soon.

B.o.B.

Another B.o.B. mixtape was released, and it's awesome. Grab the whole thing here, thanks illRoots. I pulled one track off of a whole mixtape of hits (some old, some new) for your listening pleasure.

B.o.B. - Across the World

Oh, and I also happened to stumble upon a video for No Man's Land, compliments of illRoots again.

Milkman

Honestly, I could feature a mash-up artists several times a month probably. What's happening out there is great. The mash-up style music is getting more and more popular, and the more popular something gets, the more competitive it gets. The more competitive it gets, the better quality of music is made. So this week's mash-up artist feature goes by the name of Milkman. After going through his website and pictures, it seems like he sets up shows the same way Girl Talk does, but with a little bit more complex of a set up. It looks like he rocks two laptops and a few MIDI controllers as well. Anyway, his music is quality, and it appears he's already blown up big time, at least locally. Check out the couple of his songs that I'm blogging, snag his first album for free, and consider buying his second album from his website (navigate with the tabs up top). These albums are really long and you won't be getting gipped for money, that's for sure. And plus, it's nice to hear a lot (A LOT) of unique samples, there's not many samples that have been played out by Girl Talk and others in these albums (honestly, when have you heard Atmosphere's "Sunshine" sampled?).

Here's a relatively simple track from his debut album "Lactose and THC", followed by a more complex track.

Milkman - Clap for Me
Milk Man - I Want You Back
(Like I said before, every good mash up artist/album features Jackson 5's I Want You Back)

And I'll leave you with two tracks off of Milkman's second album (not free), entitled "Circle of Fifths."

Milkman - Rap Music is Beneath Me
Milkman - Good Sex
(Yes, that's Mmmbop that you hear sampled)

The Hood Internet and Wale

The Hood Internet has released their fourth mixtape. I have yet to be disproven that these guys are the best creators of mash-ups out there. Every mashup is clean, flawless and original. So snag their fourth mixtape here!

And in order to celebrate Wale's first album drop (Attention Deficit), here's a Hood Internet remix of World Tour, which I believe I featured a while back.

Wale vs. Black Moth Super Rainbow - World Tour (The Hood Internet Remix)

I encourage you all to grab Wale's album and support his rise to the stardom. Check out just one of his songs from the album.

Wale - 90210

Straight Up Music

I can't even tell you how frustrating the internet situation here. Thanksgiving break will bring a fixed internet and a regular uploading of music and a regular schedule of blogging. Lots has happened in the music world since last time I posted. Here are just two highlights.

Chiddy Bang's mixtape, "Swelly Express," was released. Snag it here.

Mike Posner's mixtape, "One Foot Out the Door," was released. I featured a few of the songs below.
Mike Posner - One Foot Out the Door
Mike Posner - I Don't Trust Myself (John Mayer cover)

I love Posner's mixtape, and I'm still making my way through Chiddy Bang's.

Oh, and here's a random Best I Ever Had remix.

Short post, yeah, but I'm sure my internet is about to go out again.

Bittersweet

With the resurface of the Bittersweet Symphony sample (Jason Derulo's already overplayed soon to be top-40 hit "Ridin' Solo"), figured I might as well get around to posting this. It's an awesome use of Bittersweet Symphony anyway. Colin Munroe is one of my favorite, and when you combine him and Wale, good things happen.

Chiddy

Some more Chiddy Bang released, biding time till the upcoming mixtape. I'd throw a picture up here, but in previous posts, I've already used up all 2 pictures of them in google images. Love the sampling that Chiddy Bang chooses.

Check it here.

Chiddy Bang - Decline
Chiddy Bang - All Things Go

Saturday midterms.

Jams

This must be the rare time of the day that I can consistently get internet, so let's get right to it.

(Oh yeah, we had a free Girl Talk concert last night.)

Mike Posner Feat. Wale - Drug Dealer (Remix)

Gorilla Zoe - Echo

Big Boi Feat. Gucci Mane - Shine Blockas

Oh and p.s., here's a track I'm cutting out of A More Perfect Union. It's repetetive, not dancy and it just goes nowhere. Take it for what it is.

DJ BK - Track 3

New Lupe

Got a new Lupe track for you, actually off the soundtrack of a movie. I like the feel to this, a nice mix of rock and rap. Great bassline and opening guitar riff to this bad boy.

Lupe Fiasco - Solar Midnite

Kinda sounds like the group he produces and finances, Japanese Cartoon. I'll look into it.

Random Uploads

Well the internet at my house has been terrible, I can't get on for more than like 10 minutes a time it seems, and it's not getting fixed till Thanksgiving break, so posts are gonna be a little slower till then.

I'll just get right to it and post some tunes before the internet shuts down on me again.

B. Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J, Method Man - Hit Em High
Straight outta space jam, the Monstars theme song more or less.

Toto - Africa
A classic. You should recognize this immediately. If not, get on that.

And now the italics won't turn off. Cool internet.

Notorious B.I.G. vs Miley Cyrus - Party and Bullshit in the USA
I literally have no idea what's going on right now. Why is this bold? I don't know. It's doing whatever it wants. Whatever. The most overplayed song of the year vs. a rap legend. An interesting mashup for sure.

Fischerspooner - Never Win

My favorite one on this list easily. I hope this song catches on with you guys. I'm gonna look further into these guys and see what I can dig up.

And I have an announcement concerning my upcoming mixtape 'A More Perfect Union." I'm eight tracks into it. I've hit my stride and I found exactly what I want in my mixtape. A dancy, fun, original and well-constructed mash up of music. That being said, I realized that this is where I want to be while making track 8. So I decided to review the rest of my tracks to see if they can compare with the perfection of track 8. Unfortunately, or fortunately maybe, only 3 tracks are where I want them to be. So. This means I'm scrapping tracks 1, 3, 4 and 5 most likely. I'll post them in the near future if I don't end up just editing and fixing them up, but honestly, I'll probably start from scratch, and make track 6 my first track, or something similar. What this means for you guys out there waiting for new music is that you're about to get a handful of new DJ BK tracks, and it also means you're going to be waiting even longer for the full mixtape to drop. Think of it as a good thing. If I keep the feel that I've finally found all the way through the mixtape, you're going to be dancing all the way through. When I release the tracks that don't make the cut, you're going to hear a few awesome mixes, but more importantly, to me at least, why they weren't good enough for me. So sorry for making you wait, but I can assure you that it will be worth the wait. I can't stop listening and dancing to my own recent tracks, and I can't wait to share it with all of you. Thanks for being patient. Expect the other tracks soon.

-DJ BK

Review And Music

As promised, cause I'm sure you all care so much, here's a review of the Girl Talk and Super Mash Brothers shows at Vanderbilt last weekend.

(I couldn't find pictures of Girl Talk or Super Mash Bros at Vanderbilt, so google images sufficed)

Girl Talk never ceases to amaze me. His unbelievable CDs and full length tracks seem to be forever surviving over the years, so think about that as I declare that his CDs fall short of his live performances. His live performances are just unreal. He played very little of his mixes from Night Ripper or Feed the Animals; when he did play one of the mixes, they were not only his best ones (Tiny Dancer vs. Juicy), but they were mashed differently. Different speeds, different repetitions, different additions, everything about Girl Talk's live mixes is different. He addresses the crowd with emotion and ecstasy (the crowd probably had both the drug and the emotion), and he gets the crowd involved. Often, but not often enough to be played out, he would drop all instrumentals from his mash so the crowd could be heard singing just as loud as the bare vocals. As usual, mayhem ensued on stage, with everyone sweating and dancing harder than they ever had before. We managed to snag a few on stage passes, but not enough for our group, so we were spectators from the crowd this time. But it didn't matter. Not only did Girl Talk play those old school beats and songs we love so much, but he kept things fresh as well, playing the most recent songs mashed with something that turned a normally lackluster cliche song (Ice Cream Paint Job) into a crazy sing a long that rocked harder than the original. Greg Gillis's creates as much excitement as any live band would, and it's easily my favorite live performer and favorite atmosphere to be part of.

The Super Mash Bros show was the night after Girl Talk. They had a lot to live up to if they wanted to come anywhere close to Girl Talk's performance. Their mixtapes have come pretty close to Girl Talk's level, if not on the same level, so I was expecting big things. It's probably these high expectations that led me to a huge let down. In Super Mash Bros' defense, they were performing at a fraternity. Girl Talk had performed through a school function, in a gymnasium type deal, lots of space and lots of quality sound. Playing a fraternity wouldn't be a huge deal if the fraternity knew how to handle a crowd and more importantly, a sound system. Performing on what seemed to be two speakers (probably suitable for indoor party of 100 people at most) and a sub, it probably could've have been foreseen that blown speakers and shitty sound quality would affect the performance. I'm hesitant to use the word performance when talking about the Super Mash Bros. show. We've actually all put on a Super Mash Bros show on our own. It's easy. You just push play on your iTunes and listen to their mixtapes. Bringing nothing new to the table, the two bros quite literally played their mixtapes straight through, occasionally switching the order of their tracks. The only live part of their beginning performance was the two mixing one of their own tracks into the other, so there wouldn't be as much of a stop. After they played their mixtapes through (abruptly stopped midway, more than once, due to sound problems), they stayed and played a hit-or-miss live DJ set, filled with some pretty awesome mixes, but for the most part, pretty bad transitions. I do applaud them on their music choice for their live set, but there's more than just music choice during a live set. Regardless of all these things, we still had a pretty good time at Super Mash, it was a good time for sure. I still have mad respect for the work Super Mash Bros put into their mixtapes and I don't hesitate to call those mixtapes near Girl Talk's level. But as far as live performances go? Psh.

Props to Marissa and Rachel for hooking up me and my friends all weekend with a great time.

Anyway, you're bored from reading now (cause you totally just read all that), and you want some music. Let's do it.

The Outfield - Your Love (Discotech Remix)
Played this at my gig here, the place went apeshit, this remix makes an already-fun song even more dancy.

Phoenix Jukebox - Mitas Touch
Remember these guys? Just started getting them back on my iTunes rotation recently. Girl Talk, Super Mash, Phoenix Jukebox, I don't know anyone else on that level as far as creating CDs/mixtapes go. Get their CD, Grand Circus.

Blänk - My Own Two Feet
Blänk - Juicy (Notorious B.I.G. cover)
Yup, the guys who brought you the perennial favorite "Shirt Off." You may not like the Juicy cover, but think about it like this. These guys are from Sweden, and this song has reached them and affected them that they recreated it, putting their own twist on it. They're well established in America now, but it's cool to think about.

My drop box is acting funny, so instead of linking them individually, I have to link the media homepage of my drop box. So grab those tracks here.

Quick Post

I've been pretty swamped with doing nothing, so I'm just gonna post some straight music for you right now. I was at Vanderbilt all weekend, so the bad news was obviously no music for you guys. The good news however, is that I had an awesome weekend and saw both Girl Talk and Super Mash Bros. Shouts to Marissa and Rachel for getting us on lists and getting us tickets all weekend. Expect a review of GT and Super Mash next post. For now, check out this ish, accompanied by brief, almost pointless comments by me.

Bearbot - NYC
Bearbot is still doing her thing, even though we haven't heard from here in a while. Great, but short, mashup of Beastie Boys and Daft Punk.

White Panda - What You Know About Little Secrets (T.I. vs. Passion Pit)
What, you've never heard of White Panda? Yeah, me either. I'll look into him/her, but for now enjoy the mashup.

Chromeo - Night by Night

Chromeo's latest, I'm diggin' this one a lot.

Throw Some Paper Planes Over The Wonderwall Forever

Yeah. Mash-up names are usually pretty awful. But the actual mashup isn't, so that's always nice. Check out Dino Roc's DJ AM Tribute Mash. It's got "Forever" in it, which seems to be everyone's favorite song since it came out. It's been growing on me as well, for its lyrics at least. And if you know me, I'm sure it comes as no surprise when I say that I think Lil' Wayne's got the worst verse. My favorite line goes to Kanye. "You're such a fuckin' loser, he didn't even go to class, Bueller." Anyway, check out the recently released video for Forever, as well as Dino Roc's mashup.

Common Market

I'm just stopping in between classes, but I'll throw you guys something that's been resurfacing again on my iTunes rotation lately. Some more chill rap, brought to us by Common Market.

Common Market - Tobacco Road (drop)

Make Her Say

I'm still jammin' to Cudi's new album, so in honor of Cudi's new album, I'll post you a remix of another one of his radio jams that put him on the map (of freshman college girls and simple-minded-radio-listeners). So check out the remix and be ready to jam out to the song you were sick of until now.

Kid Cudi - Poke Her Face (Sammy Bananas Remix)

P.S. Had my first college gig last night and threw this on, to much appraisal from the crowd. Last night was fucking ridiculous.

DJ Hero

Stumbled upon this commercial for DJ Hero, a video game that's like guitar hero except you have a turntable and you "DJ." Kinda an interesting concept, kinda stupid but kinda cool, but whatever; I think a game like this has pretty huge significance that will be left to another post, if I ever get around to it. This post isn't about the game but it's actually about this sick preview that has a sweet mashup kind of thing with "Robot Rock" by Daft Punk and "We Will Rock You" by Queen. It's a kickass blend.

Man on the Moon - The End of Day

Happy thirsty Thursday everyone. Also known as the day before Friday or the day after Wednesday.

First of all, Cudi's new album (picture below) is dirty. It hasn't let me down and apparently hasn't let many people down all over the web; the album has been greeted with great appraisal in the blog world. There's no chance I'm going to feature more than one song, because I want you to buy the album. We've watched Cudi blow up from the beginning, those of you who have been with me and this blog from the beginning have known about Cudi months before he hit mainstream status. Now he's a common "household" name and the spotlight was on him for this new album. Did he cave in and make radio hits like "I Poke Her Face?" Nope. He opted to say 'fuck that' and delivered a pretty heartfelt album, along with a new direction of music, featuring the electronic sounds of those like Ratatat. As Common narrates the story told in Kid Cudi's album, we really get inside of Cudi's head, getting to see how he feels about stardom and about where he's going next. You really need to buy this album. Immediately. Here's just one of my favorites.

Just Poppin' In

Just stopping buy to tell you to buy Kid Cudi's album. Do it.

Tyga

I haven't posted anything about Lil' Waynes protege since I featured 'Lay You Down," but I stumbled across this piece of work and thought I'd share another jam by Tyga. And of course the image uploader is up to its usual shenanigans again and not working, so enjoy this bland post of a a pretty sweet beefed up Plain White T's song.

Tyga - Hey There Delilah Remix (drop)

And if you don't have 'Lay You Down' by Tyga, get on that...idiot.

Hood Internet

I haven't blogged about these guys for a while, but they've still been making music. Their mashups are the most perfect I've ever heard, sorry toevery other mash up artist in the whole world. These two mashups are no exceptions.

The Hood Internet - Billie Wildcat Jean

Bringin' It Back

We're bringing it back for one post cause this song has been on heavy rotation in my iTunes for some time now. A song you know and hopefully already have, but deserves this spotlight anyway, is Faith, brought to existence by our good friend George Michael.

George Michael - Faith

The video is a classic as well, but embedding of it has been disabled. Check it out here! We get some great face time with George, in color and blank and white. We also get some good close ups on a pair of hands snapping. Sick, right? Yeah, I think so too.

Empire State of Mind

Alright, something's up with the picture upload. I owe you guys way more than I'm about to leave you right now, especially since I'm sure you've heard this, but I've gotta run to class. So dig the sounds of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys on this track off of the Blueprint 3. Talk about a feel good song.
Alicia Keys kills it on this one.

Jay-Z Feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind

"I made a Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can."

Daylight

So, by now you already know the song 'Daylight' by Matt & Kim. It was on a bacardi commercial, and I've posted it before, so you should be familiar with it. Here's the mp3 if you still don't have it.

Well two Daylight updates. One is the video, which is pretty hilarious; these two look like they're having an awesome time, and it's just a funny video all together.

And we also have a De La Soul remix of the song, who sample the line "Cause in the daylight, I don't pick up my phone," which is an awesome line to sample, I just like the whole idea behind it. They also mess around with the instrumentals, adding some synth and making it sound much more electric. So enjoy this remix, and the rhymes of none other than De La Soul.

Matt & Kim - Daylight (Troublemaker Remix Feat. De La Soul)

Pursuit of Happiness

Man, I feel like I've literally pulled all my latest music off of illRoots. Oh well. Kid Cudi dropped his 3rd single off the soon-to-be-released (9 days!!) album Man On The Moon: The End Of Day.

Kid Cudi Feat. MGMT and Ratatat - Pursuit of Happiness

No Diggity, Cum Over People Like Me

Ha. What a title for this post.

I've got a few tracks for you, nothing brand new, but certainly worth knowing

Big Sean - Cum Over
This song's title is absurdly misleading. It's not just some dirty obnoxious rap song. It's just a somewhat-dirty really really chill song. Big Sean's whole mixtape, U Know Big Sean, is actually pretty dirty, cop it here. Highlights? "Hollywood," "Cum Over," "Desire, Want & Need," and "Million Dollars."

I'm gonna tack these two other tracks on here at the end, just because they fall under the same category of chill. K'naan's track is a really heartfelt track and can be pretty heavy if you're listening for it to be; while the other is simply a really good cover of the popular "No Diggity." Check em.

K'naan - People Like Me
Klaxons - No Diggity (Blackstreet Cover)

Good Morning

Chamillionaire would like to wish you a good morning, haters.

Chamillionaire - Good Morning (drop)

Shouts to illRoots.

Jay and Cudi

Well, it's easier than ever to say that Cudi has hit it big time now. And sure, he's big and famous now, but just remember, we knew him before Day N Nite hit radio, before he blew up. Now that Cudi's in the spotlight though, I don't predict the quality of his music falters in the least bit. I think Jay-Z would agree with that, considering he gave Cudi the feature on this hot Kanye-produced track coming off of Blueprint 3. Chickety check it.

Jay-Z Feat. Kid Cudi - Already Home (drop)

Yes, it's true that most of Jay's album has leaked, but you should know me by now; I won't be posting more than a track or two from the album; I hate hate hate that full albums get leaked before the official release. I've given a lot of the CD a listen though, and it sounds like a hit or miss album to me. Some songs are unbelievable, and some are just ehh at best.

P.S. Finished track 6 of "A More Perfect Union;" it's getting there.

Chiddy Bang! Kind of.

Chiddy Bang's producer, Xaphoon Jones released his mixtape. I'm only a few tracks in but it's absolutely disgusting so far. I'm too anxious to share this to wait to listen all the way through first. So enjoy. I'll give it to you straight from the guys who Xaphoon gave it to, Pretty Much Amazing.

So here it is. (PMA link, download from here.) Enjoy.

First day of classes today, cool. Might as well have some old Afroman to listen to and to heed advice from.

Welcome Back

The BK Lounge has returned for the school year. Sorry for the delay, move-in was a bitch, but here I am. So let's get back to the norm, shall we?

News today:
Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, has died at 36. Apparently, they found crack in his two million dollar apartment. That's a pretty significant loss to the music industry. DJ AM has an interesting story behind him. Philly bred, Goldstein lost his gay drug-addicted father when he committed bank fraud and was locked up. He would soon after die of AIDS. Goldstein got into drugs himself after that, and his mother sent him somewhere to clean up. Unknown to her, the place which he was sent was soon to be shut down for hitting their patients, starving their patients and other forms of maltreatment. Fast forward a couple years, DJ AM is a member of Crazy Town (yes, the band that sings 'Butterfly'), and soon would climb to fame and begin collaborating with Travis Barker. His skill as a DJ gained him international fame, and he gained respect from all aspects of the music industry. If you didn't know, DJ AM and Travis Barker were recently in a plane crash, and they were the only 2 survivors. Months of rehabilitation and recovery later, DJ AM made his return to the clubs and to music altogether and was received more than warmly around the world. An interesting story for sure.

RIP Adam Goldstein

Now, to some music.

It's only fitting to introduce DJ AM to those who don't know his music.
Check out one of his collaborations with Travis Barker, called Fix Your Face (zshare). It's an entire mixtape of Barker and DJ AM going at it; it's really impressive stuff. Check out their website for volume 2.

Moving on...
Wale Feat. Jazmine Sullivan - World Tour
(Wale's CD Attention Deficit dropping in October!)

K'naan - If Rap Gets Jealous

K'naan has got an awesome story to him as well, expect a full feature about him soon.

Wiz - I Hate College (Remix)

Shouts to Vlad for this one. Anyone that's followed this blog knows that I wouldn't be featuring any parody, remix, knock-off, etc, of I Love College unless it was pretty damn good. This unknown delivers a pretty awesome remix, so check it out.

P.S. Inside scoop from Dan Liffman, who's friends with Chiddy Bang's producer, that Chiddy Bang broke up, and the lead singer was signed. Guess we'll wait for something official from the band before we (meaning at least me) get too sad about it. In Chiddy Bang related news though, their producer, Xaphoon Jones, is releasing a mixtape! If you haven't hopped on the Chiddy Bang train yet, here's their biggest hit and one of their most creative songs, Kids, once again. My drop is going really slow, so that's the direct link from Pretty Much Amazing.

I'm Baaaaaaack

I'm back for a week or so until I leave for school, after a virtually post-less summer, I owe you guys some good music.

Recognize two of these guys? I hope by now you can recognize Kid Cudi when you see him (on the left). The man in the middle is one you know, but probably not by face. His name is David Guetta. Yeah, the Dave Guetta that created Love is Gone. Well the two collaborated for Guetta's upcoming album and this is what came out.

David Guetta Feat. KiD CuDi - Memories (drop)

Skipping the long explanations...more music.

Wale - New Soul
(sampling Yael Naim's New Soul)

Chromeo - Momma's Boy
Chromeo - Needy Girl

Shwayze - Polaroid
Shwayze - Roamin'

Matt and Kim - Daylight

Nyle - F.a.N.G.
Don't even tell me you don't remember Nyle. I've made multiple posts about him and I'm still obsessed with his rendition of Let the Beat Build. See what happens when Nyle messes around with autotune and slows things down a bit.

Black Eyed Peas - I've Gotta Feeling (Luvtek Edit)

Enjoy. Once again, consistent and daily posts once the school year begins. Look forward to it.

Just Stopping By

I'm home for a day or two for my off days. I'll post some short goodies I've come across when I've been home, or some songs that I've discovered while I was away. The posts will be short and to the point, but enjoy the music!

Super Mash Bros have a new album out titled It's All About the Scrillions. Check it out here.

Gone for the summer

I'm leaving for the summer tomorrow morning.

Keep an eye on the blogging world for good, new music, and clue me in when I get home. I'd appreciate that greatly.

In case you haven't realized, this blog is really only consistent with the school year, so look forward to the BK Lounge's full return in August. Much love.

New Chiddy Bang!!

Chiddy Bang Feat. Passion Pit - Truth (drop)

Tick tock, tick tock. Time ticks until Chiddy Bang blows up huge.

You probably know of these guys already, the Kickdrums have been featured kinda inadvertently on my blog a few times. They were on the Benzi/Plain Pat "Sky High" mixtape more than once., have many remixes to popular songs and have unbelievable talent making their own music. Here's a little information pulled directly from their site:

Kickdrums is comprised of singer/songwriter/producer Alex Fitts (Fitts) and dj/producer Matt Penttila (Tilla). After producing and officially remixing for artists such as 50 Cent, Jay Z, Adelle, Kanye, Kid Cudi, and many others, Kickdrums re-emerge with a new original sound all their own in their debut album "Just a Game." As artists, Fitts provides vocals and song writing while both produce the tracks and perform the material live. Kickdrums plan to tour this summer in support of "Just a Game" and recently completed a video for the lead single directed by Rik Cordero.

The Kickdrums' album "Just a Game" is out tomorrow! Check out these 2 tracks from their album and an old Lollipop remix of theirs.

Turn My Swag On

Shouts to The Tape.

Sorry Soulja, there will always be someone that does this thing we call rap better than you do. Check out this NYC rap group's rendition of Turn My Swag On.

Telephoned - Turn My Swag On (drop)

Bobby Ray

Man, illRoots is on top of their shit. New Bobby Ray!

Blänk

I coulda swore I posted this, but apparently I didn't. Hopefully, I don't even need to remind you of who Blänk is, the Swedish group that put out that jam "Shirt Off," and then after that, "The Pills." Well a little while ago, I got another email from David Lindgren from their record company, Grind Records. He hooked me up with Blänk's latest release. It's pretty hot, I dig it. Young Ivy, the Atlanta rapper, is back on the track, and so is a new face, and beautiful voice of Lina. Keep em coming David, and keep the jams coming.

Blänk Feat. Young Ivy - I'm Going For Your Brother (drop)

I'm gonna do some snooping around for some info on Young Ivy, cause everything he's teamed up with this group for is straight fire, especially in "Shirt Off."

All Star Line Up

Lil' Wayne, T.I., Kanye and Jay-Z, the biggest rappers in the game, come together again for a nice callabo.

Surprise!

Summer is really throwing off my blogging "schedule," and I leave mid June for the entire summer, so there won't be any music posted for the whole summer (unless someone wants to take over, let me know).

Well, the biggest surprise the music world has brought comes from an old familiar face.
...welcome back to the game DMX. Fresh outta prison, X already has two albums set to drop later this year. Shouts to illroots for this track. I dig it.

DMX - The Way It's Gonna Be (drop)

Now, on with some other assorted music, news, etc.

News:
-Jay Z has bought out his own contract with Def Jam. Significance? He's no longer on any label but his own, and now has control of every single aspect of his music. Complete freedom. Synopsis: Jay-Z is the fucking boss.

-Eminem shoots to number 1 in album sales, with number that look to be on their way to 650,000. The music industry is eating every bit of this up, Eminem's influence over the music world has not faltered in the least bit.

-Recently went to the Brother Ali and Atmosphere concert. Awesome show. Atmosphere sounds just as good as he does on his albums. Rocking some adidas shorts, a Jim's steaksandwiches tee and a windbreaker, Slug (Atmosphere's MC/rapper) just looks like any ordinary guy, which is what he seems to want. He gets the crowd actively involved, uses some improv and cracks jokes wih the audience. Slug comes out to shake each fan's hand before the show starts, the respect and grattitude towards his fans is obvious. Brother Ali was an unknown to me, but his music is very similar to Atmosphere, and his talent is equal. Check him out later in this post.

Where has Eminem been you ask?

...onto some more music...

Charles Hamilton Feat. Crooked I - Tears of Fire
-Hamilton's sampling skills are unreal and seem to be unmatched in the upcoming artist. I'm starting to think he should be producing beats and handing them off, or sharing them at least.

Brother Ali - Take Me Home
-Feel good summer song, resembling Atmosphere. No surprise that they're on the same independent label and from the same hometown of Minneapolis.

You may notice that Brother Ali is albino. All the more respect for making something out of himself.

Brother Ali - Good Lord

I'm Back

Man, I owe you guys big time. I've been slacking since I've been home. So let's play catch up!

Personal News:
-I went to the Girl Talk and Lupe Fiasco concert at Drexel University last Saturday. Here are a few pictures.
Yup, that's Greg Gillis. And yup, that's us.

Yup, that's Greg Gillis. And yup, that's me dancing on stage with him and 7500 girls.

Yup, that's Lupe.

This concert was unreal. Girl Talk did his thing, mashing popular samples over an eclectic mix of instrumentals. Honestly, the whole thing was a blur, my lifelong dream of dancing on stage with Girl Talk was fulfilled and it comes as no surprise that I found every mix to be flawless and unbelievable, even though I'm sure they were not. I'm too biased on this one to give an accurate description or analysis. I have never been so sweaty in my entire life, and sure enough, when the Jackson 5 instrumental hit, I joined Girl Talk as another shirtless maniac on stage.

Lupe was surprising to me. I saw him when he came to IU, and he rocked shit then, just as he rocked shit at Drexel. What surprised me was his opening song(s). He began with "The Instrumental" and continued on through a few other not-that-known music, not the way I thought he would go to capture an audience. Yeah they're awesome tracks, but how many Lupe fans there actually know all of his music? I'd hope to say all of them, but I'm more realistic than that. Lupe's stage presence and energy is unmatched by any performing artist I've seen in my life, and the audience becomes sucks in from the start; the atmosphere is ecstatic. He's a great performer, lyricist, and rapper. He previewed a new track from his upcoming (and last) album, LupE.N.D., that featured Matthew Santos (or so it seems), and it sounded ridiculous. I have high expectations.

-I'm going to see Atmosphere this Friday, so I'll let you know how that goes. Chiddy Bang at some point this summer too!

-I'm about 6 tracks into A More Perfect Union, but won't be able to work on it this summer. Hang in there.

Moving on from personal experience to some news in the music world:

-The bodyguard, named Alfamega, that ratted T.I. out was kicked out of Grand Hustle (T.I.'s label) and was arrested after running from the cops after taking pepper spray to the face. I consider that good news. Fuck you Alfamega.

-Eminem's whole album has leaked. Fuck that. Don't expect any more from his album on this blog. He'll appear on Family Guy this Sunday though!

-Still, nobody cares about the beef between 50 cent and Rick Ross.

And now, finally, some music!

Asher Roth Feat. Slick Rick - Y.O.U.

Mr. Hudson Feat. Kanye West - Supernova

Lenlow - Get Eastwood
Sean Paul vs. Gorillaz

DJ 0.000001 - We All Fall Down

Fatboy Slim - Praise You

Asher Roth - Boom Boom Pow Remix

and the video from the studio:

Pantless Knights - Puke in My Mouth

I know, a random mix of rap, not rap, remixes, originals, new, old, etc. It's just what I've been listening to lately and I owe you guys some good music that you may not know yet. I may feature Lenlow or one of these others another time, but enjoy these for now.

P.S. I got an email from David Lingren, from Blänk's record label (Grind Records), with a new track and video, so I'll probably post that up and comment on that tomorrow. I still rock to their jam "Shirt Off" all the time.

Bobby Ray

Thanks to illRoots for the heads up on this one.

Betcha didn't know Coldplay was Bobby Ray's favorite band.

Eminem

New track from Relapse, called Insane. It's...insane. Some really fucked up shit in here. For those of you concerned over that accent Eminem has had on his latest releases, this should ease your fears at least.

I also feel like people don't know what's been up with Eminem before this. He's been in and out of rehab for several years, addicted to medication he was taking. He claims he couldn't even remember the last time he recorded a track completely sober of drugs and alcohol, and that this album was like starting over for him. So this album, aptly named "Relapse," is more than just a comeback to music for Marshall Mathers, it's a comback to a real life really. Hopefully this will be the first of a few more albums as Eminem gets his life back on track.

Whooooaaaa

Lupe and Bobby Ray collabo? Yes please!

Covers, sorta.

Aries Spears impersonating a few of our favorite rappers.

Nick Pitera impersonating of a few of our favorite Disney characters. This guy is unreal, it's creepy how dead on he is; check his other songs too in related videos, they are no exception.

Sky High

I posted the Benzi & Plain Pat "Sky High" mixtape a while ago, but I just gotta highlight this Cudi track from it. It's just dirty. So if you didn't download the mixtape, check this ish out now. Cudi threw it on his mixtape, Dat Kid From Cleveland, as well. So check out Cudi's mixtape and specifically, this jam from the remixed Kanye album.

Crack A Blogger

Charles Hamilton out with a fresh one, without a fresh beat (for a change). Charles Hamilton is doing the opposite of growing on me.

The Hood Internet

The Hood Internet might be the best mash up creators I know of. Every mashup I've featured of theirs (check out the other features by going to the somewhat newly added 'tags' in the right column) is so clean and perfect. They're on top of their shit, remixing new music all the time. Here's a couple of the hip hop class of '09 mashed up, directly from their website (linked above).

ABX - I Love Friction (Asher Roth vs. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart) (direct)

The 'chug, chug, chug, chug, etc.' part is dirty.

DJ STV SLV - Another Day 'N' Nite (Kid Cudi vs Cornelius) (direct)

Old Times Sake

I've gotta leave for a final in four minutes. But suck on this until my next post. Eminem's next release from Relapse, featuring Dr. Dre.

Let Gangstas Rock

White Folks Get Crunk has been delivering mad crazy mashups lately. I feel like I've more or less been forwarding their featured mashups. Dig this Lil' Wayne and Chromeo mash up.

Kevin Rudolf & Lil Wayne vs. Chromeo - Let Gangstas Rock (DJ Royale Mix)

P.S. Nyle's "Let the Beat Build" video, the one I featured here 2 weeks ago, is now youtube's spotlight featured video. Kid's getting his rec finally. You heard it here first.

Nyle

Remember Nyle? Sure you do. I blogged about him a while back for this:

Nyle "Let The Beat Build" from Nyle on Vimeo.

Well I followed up on him, looking for more music and information. And I found a hidden gem in Nyle (pronounced Ny-lee maybe, he says both, so like, wtf). And guess what? Another Philly born talent. I love this shit. He goes to school at NYU and made the above video there with a bunch of his class mates. You really gotta hear this kid go. Using covers of artists like Jack Johnson and sampling songs like "Take a Walk on the Wild Side," Nyle does it all.

Don't take my word for it though, check out his music with this incredibly easy mp3 player from his website. I'm going to feature a song on my dropbox for you guys, but I'm also going to include the inredibly easy mp3 player from his website that you can listen to and download directly from (well, from 'Frosh' at least), so you can listen to all of his stuff if you want.

Nyle Music 2 (S'mores)
If you're from Philly or my area, which I know almost all of you are, be sure to check out Bye Philly from this second link. Mad shoutouts to Philly, cheesesteaks, Will Smith, Wawa, Ritas, South Street, the attack on Santa Clause, and more in it. You'll love this song, it's not often someone raps (well) about things we actually know.

"But Philly, it's not you, it's me, can't you see?"

Check out NYU too if you only are gonna listen to a couple songs.

His website here.

Aime

I really have nothing on this kid, I'mma get on it though, cause this kid is fire. I stumbled upon him while perusing through some illRoots posts.

And what do you know? Another hot artist from a Philly school. Straight outta Temple University, allow me to introduce you to Aime.

Aime - Dope Boys
Aime - Swag of a College Kid
Aime Feat. Samantha Rise - 2 Tantric
Aime - Heartbreaker
Aime - Aime for the Basics

Hey Temple kids, recognize any of these places?

His flow is nice, and his lyricism and witty rhymes are outstanding, as is his use of samples and different instrumentation. The diversity of his music is seen in these 5 songs alone. Telling a story with his rhymes and music in Heartbreaker, a comparison can easily be drawn to Atmosphere. The moods of his songs vary as well, with Heartbreaker being slow and serious, 2 Trantric being smooth and laid back, and Dope Boys hitting hard. Kid's got talent.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this kid for new music and info. In the mean time, enjoy the rhymes and flow of Aime.

Be By Myself

Asher dropped the video for Be By Myself. It's pretty abstract and artistic. I dig it. Something's a little funky with the video, about 2 minutes in, I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be in there, and it cuts out earlier than the released track does, not sure if that's on purpose. It's all good.

Asher Roth Feat. Cee-Lo - Be By Myself

Stay Fly

Pulled directly from White Folks Get Crunk comes this Luny P remix of Three 6 Mafia's Stay Fly. It's infinity times faster, got a nice heavy house beat behind it, and just gives the song a new feel. Chickety check it.

Props to White Folks, this drop is right from their website.

Let Love Rule

Over 20 years ago, Lenny Kravitz released an album entitled "Let Love Rule." 6 years later, the album was certified gold.

The hit single, "Let Love Rule," became immensely popular and Lenny Kravitz was shot to the top of the charts. But you've most likely never heard the track, because when it comes down to it, it's been lost amongst the new age music, and the original track is somewhat lackluster, although I still enjoy it. The saxophone solo is really impressive at the very least.

Many years later, Let Love Rule, the album, was re-released, and who comes along to remix the hit single? Justice! (You know Justice, these guys created D.A.N.C.E.) Check out their rendition of the song, but I also recommend checking out the original so you will better appreciate this remix. The electronic feel and bass in this remix has Justice written all over it. The electric accompaniment to the sax solo is outstanding.

And if you haven't guessed, sorry hip hop lovers, you will find your stereotypical hip hop neither in Lenny Kravitz nor Justice.

White Rappers

Asher and Rick Ross's albums were released the same week (maybe same day, I don't know or care too much), in case you haven't heard. Well, that's not the only thing they faced off in.

And a new Eminem track off of Relapse. It's 'eh.' May 19th debuts the comeback of Eminem.

Basement Jaxx...And Lil' Wayne

Whatchu know about Basement Jaxx? Probably not much. Well they sing "Where's Your Head At?" That's some 2001 ish, but at least you know who they are. Bet you didn't think that they looked like this though. They're an electro-house duo from the UK who know how to rock your face off.

Well fresh off their newest album, appropriately named, "The Return of Basement Jaxx," comes this.

Basement Jaxx - Raindrops (drop)

This is far from anything remotely close to hip hop, so sorry hip hop lovers. My advice? Turn this up to at least eleven and rock your fucking face off.

Oh yeah, and this sounds like it could possibly be Lil' Wayne's next radio jam once it makes the jump from internet to mainstream; it sounds extremely radio friendly to me. And the radio loves Kevin Rudolf.
