Summer is really throwing off my blogging "schedule," and I leave mid June for the entire summer, so there won't be any music posted for the whole summer (unless someone wants to take over, let me know).
Well, the biggest surprise the music world has brought comes from an old familiar face.
...welcome back to the game DMX. Fresh outta prison, X already has two albums set to drop later this year. Shouts to illroots for this track. I dig it.
DMX - The Way It's Gonna Be (drop)
Now, on with some other assorted music, news, etc.
News:
-Jay Z has bought out his own contract with Def Jam. Significance? He's no longer on any label but his own, and now has control of every single aspect of his music. Complete freedom. Synopsis: Jay-Z is the fucking boss.
-Eminem shoots to number 1 in album sales, with number that look to be on their way to 650,000. The music industry is eating every bit of this up, Eminem's influence over the music world has not faltered in the least bit.
-Recently went to the Brother Ali and Atmosphere concert. Awesome show. Atmosphere sounds just as good as he does on his albums. Rocking some adidas shorts, a Jim's steaksandwiches tee and a windbreaker, Slug (Atmosphere's MC/rapper) just looks like any ordinary guy, which is what he seems to want. He gets the crowd actively involved, uses some improv and cracks jokes wih the audience. Slug comes out to shake each fan's hand before the show starts, the respect and grattitude towards his fans is obvious. Brother Ali was an unknown to me, but his music is very similar to Atmosphere, and his talent is equal. Check him out later in this post.
Where has Eminem been you ask?
...onto some more music...
Charles Hamilton Feat. Crooked I - Tears of Fire
-Hamilton's sampling skills are unreal and seem to be unmatched in the upcoming artist. I'm starting to think he should be producing beats and handing them off, or sharing them at least.
Brother Ali - Take Me Home
-Feel good summer song, resembling Atmosphere. No surprise that they're on the same independent label and from the same hometown of Minneapolis.
You may notice that Brother Ali is albino. All the more respect for making something out of himself.
Brother Ali - Good Lord
